The liq calc uses HL's per-asset max leverage (fetched once via /info meta) to approximate the maintenance margin fraction as 1 / (2 × maxLeverage) — that's HL's documented convention for most perps. Once a real position opens, the canonical liq price comes from clearinghouseState; this calc is for pre-trade sizing.
